COVID-19 Emergency Humanitarian Aid from France to Liberia

IPNEWS – Monrovia: France is closely following the recent evolution of the COVID-19 epidemic in Liberia. In response to the needs, the French government reacted promptly with the delivery, on the 3rd of July 2021 of 56,800 rapid antigenic tests and transport respirators for ambulances. These rapid antigenic tests will allow the Liberian Ministry of Health to reorganize and decentralize the detection tests and so to counter the spread of the epidemic.

This humanitarian assistance follows the meeting in Paris of the President of the Republic of Liberia, George Weah, with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on Thursday, July 1, 2021 in Paris.

The French Embassy in Liberia thanks the European Union, which covered part of the transport costs, as well as Air France and BollorΓ©, who have made special arrangements to facilitate the immediate delivery of this aid to Liberia.

This urgent delivery is part of the French assistance in support of the national plan to fight Covid-19 in Liberia, which comprises a € 3 million project of the French Agency for Development conducted with the French NGO Action Against Hunger since July 2020 as well as the French funding of the action of the EU, of the World Bank as well as of the COVAX facility, which has been providing vaccines to Liberia.
