Liberia Land Authority Launches Community Land Intervention, Monitoring

IPNEWS-Monrovia: The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) has launched a community land intervention monitoring and management tool amid reporting information on land conflict in Liberia.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Liberia Land Authority Chairperson, Atty. Adams Manobah stressed the importance of adequate budgetary support to achieve the full implementation of the law.

According to Atty. Manobah, the Land Authority has been significantly reliant on donor’s funding to supplement government support to the Authority.

Manobah pointed out that if the LLA budget is increased, it will enable the Authority to create more awareness and interpret the Land Rights Act and resolve land conflicts across the country.

Meanwhile, giving the overview of the launch, the head of CADASTA Christopher Byren said the community land intervention monitoring and management tool is intended to improve the LLA’s ability to manage and monitor CSO activities, support donor’s coordination and transparency on reporting land data.

CADASTA was founded in 2015 to develop and promote the use of simple digital tools and technology to help partners efficiently document, analyze, store and share critical land and resources rights information, he said.

On his part Sweden Deputy Head of Mission to Liberia, Johan Romare has described the land right act as key to maintaining democracy, human rights, and gender equality in Liberia.

According to Johan Romare, Land dispute in any growing society is a challenge to the growth and social economic empowerment and development of that society as such government, CSOs and citizens must take the lead in handling it adding  Land disputes have over years disintegrated great families and broken the fabric of great customary communities.

“Today, in Liberia, women, men, youth and persons with disabilities have equal rights and protection to land. The voices of women cannot be overlooked, thus, women have rights to form part of the CLDMC at the customary level.”

“Well, did you know that land disputes can also destroy the peace of our country? Yes! Well, while we encourage communities to formalize their customary land, we are also encouraging buyers of land to also seek advice from the LLA office before and during land transactions. Why? This will help prevent the double sales of land, and as well help you find the right owner of the land you want to buy.”

“Also, to all those who have acquired land and are yet to register their lands, remember, the LLA is the only place for all land registration.”

Further, as you enjoy your “Thanksgiving Day’ REMEMBER, we remained committed to ensuring that land disputes are minimized through awareness activities on the LRA and LLAA.”

At the same time Sweden Deputy Head of Mission to Liberia Johan Romare called on donors and partners who are interested in the development of Liberia to help the LLA technically and financially.
