MINISTER GESLER MURRAY WANTS FREE EDUCATION

IPNEWS: Mines and Energy Minister Gesler Murray has condemned current situation of the educational system and is calling for urgent recalibration to provide a balance in both the public and private sector.

Serving as a key note speaker of the first graduation exercise of The Salvation Army Polytechnic T-SAP on Friday April 30 2021 in Monrovia, the 38 years old experience geologist assaulted that the poor performance of public school across the country, is worrisome.

He said the government has provided free education to all public schools in Liberia but the greatest challenge is the lack of adequate learning facilities to enhance quality education for the poor students who can’t afford to send their children to private schools.

The Minister said , the private schools remain the most focus point of the parents which have impose acute challenges due to poor and quality public schools facilities.

Going further he added that public schools class rooms are overcrowded with about 60 students squeezed in one tight and tiny space with lack of technology to include: computers internet and qualified instructors.

Meanwhile the Minister Warns the appropriate authorities to react against students violence, vandalism, terrorism with the use of knives and guns among students in Liberia.

The Minister however , confirmed that the Wold Bank and the African Development Banks awarding contracts to foreign companies because of the lacking of the digital skills and qualifications among Liberians .

“We had an NGO ( the American Colonization society) and people who were literally just coming out of slavery, who had been suppressed for years and decades and before then, their fathers for centuries. The brought nothing in their hands but pain suffering in their hearts and a dogged determination to survive and strive ” the Minister said.

In his conclusion , Minister Murray’s said that Liberia needs to redefine education to meet the 21st century goal that will provide a brighter feature for the youthful generation.
