For Financial Corruption & other Vices, Aggrieved Liberty Party Stalwarts Want Musa Bility Out as LP Chairman

IPNEWS-MONROVIA: Again pressure is mounting within the leadership of the Opposition Liberty Party, for the removal of former President, Liberia Football Association (LFA), Musa Bility as Chairman.

The aggrieved partisans at an extra ordinary retreat held in Charlesville, Margibi County, over the weekend, cited financial corruption and other vices as solid reasons for Musa Bility immediate removal as Chairman of the Liberty Party.

The Concerned Liberty Partisans’ in a resolution adopted over the weekend, called on Mr. Bility to recuse himself as chairman of the party, and submit himself for an investigation in order to clear his name of ‘corruption allegations’.

The aggrieved Liberty Party members’ have meanwhile given the party’s political leader, Sen. Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence 28-days ultimatum to publish all relevant documents surrounding assets belonging to the Party.

It can be recalled in 2019, Mr. Bility was banned from all sporting activities for ten years, by the World football governing body FIFA, on allegations of corruption.

Reading the group’s resolution in Margibi County, Juteh Toe, who is also an official of the Concerned Liberty Partisans’ indicated that Chairman Musa Bility lacks the moral rectitude to preside over the Liberty Party, a constituent party for of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties.

Recently a rebellious group within the Liberty Party, under the banner ‘Friends of Brumskine (FOB)’, are calling for the unconditional resignation of Musa Bility, as chairman of Liberty Party.

The FOB, mostly made up of young activist who were founding members of the Liberty Party and loyalist of the political founder emeritus Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine.

Musa Bility was recently elected as Chairman amid criticisms over what many described as his “crookish and corrupt” credentials.

Some Liberians believe that the LP as a party that profess to stand for integrity, should not have allowed such a man with “tainted records” to occupy it Chairmanship.

They therefore want him to be replaced with Former Margibi County Senator Clarice Jah. But supporters of Bility has opposed the move.

“We will not allow anyone to undemocratically remove Chairman Bility. He has done no wrong,” said Musa Sanoe, a supporter of Bility.

Over the week Mr. Bility elevated public discussion over his corrupt credentials when he displayed without budgetary allocation 17 new TOYOTA pickup trucks for Liberty Party’s county chairpersons.

The move sparked confusion within the Liberty party with some activist of the party calling for investigation into how the vehicles were acquired.

Inquiry by IPNews to Mr. Musa Bility on the acquisition of the new vehicles in the face of corruption accusations are yet to be answered.

In a release published in Monrovia over the weekend, the Leadership of the Friends of Brumskine (FOB), and Founding Executive Members of Liberty Party , described the just ended “Special Convention” that broight Bility to power as “undemocratic and a total letdown: for Liberia’s fight against corruption.

The FOB Leaders noted that the decision to allow Mr. Musa Bility ascend to the chairmanship of the Liberty Party considering his myriad involvement in corruption scandals locally and internationally, speaks to the leadership malaise that currently pervades the party.

According to the group, Musa Bility’s involvement with many corruption scandals, ranging from the RIA Economic Sabotage and Criminal Conspiracy Case; Tax Evasion; 27 million dollars Road Fund debacle and the widely publicized FIFA ban from football because of his involvement in corruption renders him unfit to Chair Liberty Party; until he clears his name from the myriad of corruption; adding that Liberty Party has over the years situated itself as an institutional pillar for integrity in Liberia.

“Mr. Bility’s assertions carried in the Liberian media in which he bragged that he bankrolled executive members of Liberty Party by buying them cars have not helped the suspicions of corruption that marred his ascendency to the party’s leadership”, the group observed. At the same time, the group is warning against the use of dark money to influence national politics.

The group further stated that as they embark upon the journey to restore credibility to the Party, heal the “bad blood” and reconcile the rank and file of the party, they wish to call on the general public, especially foreign diplomats not to do official business in the name of Liberty Party with Mr. Musa Bility.

“We have taken this corrective action amidst the avalanche of public criticism against Mr. Bility regarding his checkered history, in the hope of restoring credibility to the party as well as maintaining the support of the masses,” the release noted.

The release also said that Madam Clarice Davis Jah as Acting Chair will administer the affairs of the party, while modalities are being worked up for an extraordinary session to elect a suitable candidate with morally acceptable CV in society as Chair de jure of the Party.
